A
New Sense of Freedom! "I do things simply because I
want. I can go to a movie or a restaurant alone and not
worry whether someone thinks I'm a loser." "No one is shocked if I decide
the refrigerator looks nice in the living
room." "I don't give a
flip what other people think. I sing at the top of my
lungs in the car with the windows down, even at traffic
lights." (Quotes in an
article published in the Sept/Oct 2008 AARP magazine,
entitled: 50
Reasons To Love The Age You're At. A few samples of the other 47
reasons: · People
over 55 own 77% of all financial assets in the
U.S. (At least until last week!) · By 2011
the American 50+ population will surpass the 100 million
mark. · Because
your spiritual side grows stronger: "As we age, we
experience things that aren't easily
explained--tragedies, failing health--and we become more
reflective. There is so much more to learn about the
mystery that is the divine, and I've got this thimbleful
of knowledge, and I want more. Earlier, a thimbleful was
all I could handle. Not anymore." Reflecting on this new sense of
freedom, I'm drawn to the example of Jesus in John
13:3-4: "Jesus knew. . .
that he had come from God and was returning to God", so
he humbly served his followers. I believe this is one of
the incredible strengths of the Boomer generation.
We know where we came from and, as Christ followers, we
know where we are going. This frees us up to serve. When
we have come to the place in our lives where we accept
our past for what it is we experience a new sense of
freedom. We are who we are, who we are. When we also
have peace about our future, we are free to invest
ourselves in our present -- the lives around us, the
opportunities we value, the challenges we seek. One of the concepts we grasp
along the way of life is that every phase is a
preparation for the next phase. Combining that
realization with our sense of personal freedom, we are
in a unique stage of life, ready to launch ourselves
into the next phase, no holds barred, fully engaged,
willing to invest ourselves to make a significant
impact! The old "me"
generation has evolved into the "be" generation -- let's
be all we can be, let's leave a powerful legacy, let's
make an impact -- following the simple example of Jesus
-- serving those around us, with full
freedom.

New Significant Partnership for
Finishers
We are excited to announce the
recent signing of a partnership with Significant
Living/CASA. They have chosen Finishers to be a resource
to help their members connect with ministry
opportunities. That is exactly why we exist so the
partnership fits in line with our
purposes. "We have just formed a partnership with The
Finishers Project which we believe will provide a
credible connecting point for our members who are
looking to make a significant ministry impact," says
Randy Swanson, Executive Director of Significant
Living. Says Ward Tanneburg, Executive Director of CASA,
"I believe this partnership with Finishers will provide
a valuable resource to CASA churches and
individuals. I know Tom Adelsman, the Church
Ministries Director and Don Parrott, the President,
personally and wholeheartedly endorse the direction and
desire they have for this ministry." In Finishers, we
encourage you to examine the two websites, www.gocasa.org and www.significantliving.org and consider
becoming a member of one or both.
