The Bridge serves to keep you connected with the amazing ministry and impact of Finishers Project.  We welcome your feedback, so please call or write.
Are We Helping You?

In the past six issues of The Bridge we have written about the main Challenges we face when moving from the marketplace into a missions-related ministry.  They are:  Faith, Finances, Family, Fit, Future and Fight. (Those articles can be accessed on our website at by Clicking Here with February 2009 as an Introduction and the six articles in the March through August issues.)

We have received positive responses from many of you, which leads me to wonder what other subjects we might present that would be of help and interest to you.  If you have a suggestion, please click on this email link, azoffice@finishers.org , and share you thought or question and we'll do our best to present something beneficial to all of us looking to invest our lives well in these coming years.
Great Book Resources

We were recently asked for a list of books we suggest for mid-lifers looking to invest themselves in new ministry expressions.  Interested in the top picks we recommended?

Do You Know Someone Who Should Attend a Finishers Forum?

These quality weekend conferences are designed to bring together mid-life adults who are thinking about the same things regarding their future...how can I make a difference...how do I really want to invest the time and energy I have in the coming years...is there really a good fit for me in a ministry role, right here at home or even abroad?

The next Forum is:         October 9-10, 2009
                               Faith Evangelical Free Church
                                       3920 S Shields St
                                        Fort Collins, CO

Do You Know Someone Who Should Attend The Journey Deepens?

The Journey Deepens retreat can help you process the question "Is cross cultural ministry for me?"  The format for these unique weekends is a retreat setting instead of a conference setting. Each participant is placed in a small group with others of similar age and ministry experience and with a coach who has cross-cultural ministry experience.

The next Retreat is:           October 16-18, 2009
                                   Operation Mobilization - USA
                                           285 Lynwood Ave
                                                Tyrone, GA

Testimony from Ernie

The passion I have is to see people 62 and older using their gifts overseas, enjoying the impact that can bring.  My wife and I have done that for eight years and, believe it or not, we actually save money by living in several middle-east countries!  Living on Social Security and other investments, we are not a financial drain on the agency or the church.  We do have a few people who help us with travel costs but we essentially support ourselves.

Gray hair definitely has power in many countries.  We say, 'take advantage of it!'  We are free to go and do what our Lord says.  It has been life changing and we could share so much more.  What God has done in our lives since the age of 62 has been miraculous!
Kay Strom's BookThe Second Half Adventure
By Kay Strom

"Don't just retire - use your time,
skills & resources to change the world"

A social worker from New England... a Texas airline pilot... a homemaker from California... a lawyer who has lived everywhere... a quilter in Oregon. What do they have in common?  All are on the adventure of their lives.  Like many others among the 77 million baby boomers, these men and women don't want to retire from contributing when they retire from their careers.  So they are using their time, skills, and resources to make a difference.  Written in conjunction with Finishers Project, this book will help baby boomers discover a second-half adventure that fits them and counts for eternity.

The book will be available on October 1, 2009 at your local Christian bookstore or general bookstore. It may also be purchased online now at: Amazon.com, Borders.com, Barnes & Nobel.com, and Christianbook.com.
